WHO ARE YOU SLEEPING WITH TONIGHT?
After a year of use ONE SIXTH the weight of your mattress is dust mites and their droppings. This is also true of your pillow, box spring, and comforter. All must be covered with a mite-proof encasing to isolate you from these allergens.
It is not enough to just cover your pillow. Unless you cover the mattress, box spring and comforter, and frequently wash blankets and linens, you will not get the relief you are looking for.
Your immune system is like a bucket. Once the bucket is "filled" with allergens your immune system can't handle any more and you react with the familiar allergic symptoms. If you can allow your system to rest all night in an allergy free environment your "bucket" will be less than full in the morning and you will be able to handle other allergens you encounter.
If you are allergic to dust mites covering your bedding in soft, breathable, quiet, dust mite proof bedding is the best thing you can do for your health. Why take expensive drugs that cause side effects? Encasing your bed is not expensive and it's a permanent solution. Remember, many doctors believe allergies can cause asthma if left untreated. Even if your not allergic now prolonged exposure to an allergen can cause you to become allergic at any time during your life.
If you have a rug or carpet in your room it may contain dust mites also. When you vacuum the rug you spray these microscopic mites into the air and all over the room. To prevent this you can take several steps.
1. Consider eliminating the carpet if you have a hardwood floor underneath.
2. Spray the carpet with AllerSafe Anti-Allergen Spray. This plant based, non-toxic, non-staining spray is highly effective in neutralizing dustmite, pet and other allergens. After treatment the mites which are blown into the air by your vacuum will not cause an allergic reaction because they have been denatured.
3. Consider purchasing a tight vacuum cleaner that does not leak allergens into the air. We recommend Miele vacuums which have been shown to be extremely tight and almost nothing escapes the HEPA filtering system.
At Allergy Etc. our mission is to provide affordable solutions to your allergy and environmental problems.
CAUTION: Some linen stores are selling all cotton mattress covers which they claim stop dust mites. Research studies show that all cotton material, even with a high thread count, will soon loosen and permit dust mite leakage. All cotton material is not necessary for comfort. Our covers "breathe" by allowing air and moisture through, but not dust mites. Also, never buy a cover that is not a complete encasement (a big bag). Only completely encasing the mattress, pillow or comforter will contain the mite allergen.
